On July 29th I heard a commotion outside. There sat Cooper and Roxy sniffing at the ground and robins swooping around them squawking. There was a baby robin on the ground. I look up and see a hawk. I suppose he heard all the noise, which must be a dinner signal.
I brought the dogs in hoping the robins would be able to get there baby back in the nest. I couldn't put it back because the nest was in a odd and very high place in a tree.
I went out an hour later and found this.
I think it's a hawk feather. The baby robin was still there and alive. So the robins must have ganged up on the hawk to chase it away. I decided to put the baby in a bowl and put by our shed so it would have a little shelter and the adult robins could still feed it.
It jumped out of the bowl...
When I checked the next morning I didn't see it anywhere, I hope the baby made it.

Wednesday Wildlife: Chickadee
Another Bird flew into the window! I should move the bird feeder but I enjoy watching them. This little guy didn't want to leave me even after he was done being knocked silly!

Wednesday Wildlife: Poor Baby
I am not sure what type of bird this is, possibly a warbler. Maybe someone can fill me in. Anyhow the story on how I came to hold the poor thing, I was sitting on my couch trying to get more things listed in my Bonanza booth but failing miserably. I was crying and I suppose feeling sorry for myself. In less than a week Alyssa should be graduating from high school. It hurts that we are not crying because another of our babies is grown and trying to figure out how we go so far, seemingly so fast.
I heard a thud and saw this poor thing had hit the window and was laying on his back. It took about 5 minutes before he/she finally flew out of my hand. So I am hoping the bird is okay and only stunned.
It reminded me for a moment that I am still alive and apparently still have things to do.
On the funny side... later that day Devin was saying something and I covered his mouth and he licked my hand. So I showed him this picture and told him the bird pooped in my hand.
What? I thought it was funny.

Wednesday Wildlife:The Good Weather Birds Are Here
Well I've got my hummingbird feeders out and they are lapping it up. Getting a picture has proven tougher than I thought. They are not shy birds but I suppose like all birds they spook easily. I have the bird feeder out front right by the window so they see movement in the house while I am trying to get a picture.
Go figure...I was surprised that I was able to get a photo of the orioles. Since they are a shy bird.
The grosbeaks have been listening to the music box song that I have been trying to figure out. They freaked Brian out. He looked at me and asked if there was a bird in the house. Ah, no the windows are open.

Wednesday Wildlife: Woodpecker Damage
I shared these pictures a few weeks ago.
The bird feeder is in the front of our house.
We noticed a pile of something in the back of the house. When we went back there this is what we found.
Homemade woodchips
Building a home or looking for food? Devin's mad he thinks the grubs should be his bait for fishing.

Wednesday Wildlife: The Circle Of Life
Thank god I don't have to see more than this! Cooper and Roxy came out of the woods with some big bones yesterday. I can only assume "deer". I sent Brian a text saying "The dogs brought home big bones. More bodies?" He responded "cool". Should I worry?

Wednesday Wildlife: Turkey Territory And A Snow Fall
When we see turkeys in the area usually you see 3 or more likely a group of them.
This turkey was just wandering through our yard looking for the rest of the clan. She disappeared in the woods behind the house.
In other news, this it what it is doing outside right now.
I Hate Snow!

Wednesday Wildlife:
This bird has been coming around for a few days now. Trying to get a good picture was tough.
Every time we moved to get a better view, he would fly away. Although the dogs barking didn't seem to bother him.

Wednesday Wildlife: The Bald Eagle
Lately in our wanderings we've been seeing bald eagles flying in circles in the area.
I wasn't able to get a picture. It would have just looked like this: .
